Explore new worlds in this riveting sci-fi novel
“Powers writes action and adventure that Indiana Jones could only dream of.”
—Washington Post
“Tim Powers is a brilliant writer.”
—William Gibson
The remarkable Tim Powers—who ingeniously married the John Le Carrè spy novel to the otherworldly in his critically acclaimed Declare—brings us pirate adventure with a dazzling difference. On Stranger Tides features Blackbeard, ghosts, voodoo, zombies, the fable Fountain of Youth…and more swashbuckling action than you could shake a cutlass at, as reluctant buccaneer John Shandy braves all manner of peril, natural and supernatural, to rescue his ensorcelled love. Nominated for the Locus and World Fantasy Awards, On Stranger Tides is the book that inspired the motion picture Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides—non-stop, breathtaking fiction from the genius imagination that conceived Last Call, Expiration Date, and Three Days to Never.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
World Fantasy Award\x96winner Powers (Three Days to Never) demonstrates a precise control of complex narratives in this reprint of his rollicking and enchanting 1987 novel. Puppeteer John Chandagnac, bound for Jamaica to recover stolen money from his uncle, becomes Jack Shandy after pirates attack his ship and force him to join their crew. Shandy's struggle to accept his new life grounds the story for readers, even as Blackbeard and vodun magicians whisk everyone away to dreamlike lands where the Fountain of Youth itself awaits. The chaotic sea battles sing, though at times key events happen so quickly that they get lost in the shuffle as Jack tries to comprehend where he's going and what's at stake. This dark fantasy tale will appeal not just to pirate fans but also to anyone who appreciates Powers's talent for blending the most unlikely elements into a brilliantly cohesive whole.

Pirate story
Great characters and plot!
Lovedd ittt
This is a very enjoyable read. The fourth pirates of the caribbean didn't do it justice- they're two completely different stories!
A piratical adventure
This book encompasses the entire legacy of piracy. It's historically accurate as well. Its use of language is a bit challenging, but its a great story. Do not however read this before watching pirates of the Caribbean 4. It's going to spoil too much. But I definitely give this book two thumbs up
