Publisher Description
The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir of U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle, and the source for Clint Eastwood’s blockbuster, Academy-Award nominated movie.
“An amazingly detailed account of fighting in Iraq--a humanizing, brave story that’s extremely readable.” — PATRICIA CORNWELL, New York Times Book Review
"Jaw-dropping...Undeniably riveting." —RICHARD ROEPER, Chicago Sun-Times
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him “The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris.
Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Drawing on his experiences as an elite sharpshooter for the Navy SEALs, Chris Kyle delivers a thought-provoking account of modern warfare. In spare, direct prose, Kyle shares sobering glimpses of combat in Iraq, the rigours of training and the emotional toll his work took on his personal life. Kyle’s wife, Tara, provides additional commentary that’s at once illuminating and heartbreaking. American Sniper has been adapted for the screen by Clint Eastwood.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
One of the most feared soldiers to ever set foot on the battleground that was and still is Iraq, Kyle recounts his bloody tales of war with deadly accuracy. Skillfully narrated by John Pruden, these fascinating war stories offer insight into the perils of modern combat. Pruden's tone is that of a Navy SEAL: calm, cool, and collected. And he never falters in recounting the author's impressive skills on the battlefield skills that gave Kyle the most career sniper kills in United States military history. While Kyle's story is gripping in its own right, Pruden's outstanding narration brings the story to life with brutal realism. Pruden is a man possessed in this account; he embodies Kyle from start to finish. The result is truly chilling listening. A William Morrow hardcover.

Wow
As a citizen of the United States, I often wonder what war is really like. We watch the movies and hear the rumors, but what is really going on? Chris Kyle takes us on a journey through his personal life as a Navy SEAL, a husband, a father, and a hero. This book is real and in your face. When you read it, you'll have a whole new respect for men and women in the service, as well as new respect for the United States of America.
Wow, just Wow!
Let me start with a warning, the language is very harsh at times, and F bombs are in abundance. The fact that they are recounting conversations that took place makes them unavoidable, but is my only concern of this book. Truly a remarkable read, unlike anything I have had the pleasure to spend time on. Powerful visualization and straight talk is a hallmark of this book. I can't recommend this book to you teens, because of the language, but I pu it in the must read for every other person I know. I hope I have the pleasure of buying the author an adult beverage one day, thank you for our service!
