Publisher Description
A hugely popular and beloved football commentator and former player with the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens, Tony Siragusa offers his uncensored insider's look at the NFL and his hilarious take on life off the gridiron.
The New York Times called him a "modern-day John Madden." Tony Soprano called him "Frankie Cortese." His teammates called him "Goose." Whatever you call him, Tony Siragusa is larger than life in every possible sense, from his personality to his physique to his colorful career, hilarious stories, and bombastic take on life.
Goose is the book that Siragusa's fans have been clamoring for, to hear more from the Super Bowl champ-turned-commentator-turned-actor, who has brought his unmistakable style and intense love for life to every endeavor. In a memoir that is guaranteed to make you laugh, cheer, shake your head, laugh some more, and then think seriously, Siragusa offers stories, life lessons, and perspective gained from his unbelievable collection of experiences. He also offers a no-holds-barred look at the NFL, with locker room stories and surprising glimpses at the way things are done when the cameras (or the refs) aren't looking. His narratives range from hilarious anecdotes about his New Jersey childhood and wild college days, to behind-the-scenes glimpses at some of the greatest players in football history, to Goose's opinions about the current state of the NFL. And he shares them all with his signature love for life and uncensored insight.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Siragusa, former defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens known as Goose to his family and legions of fans, wasn't always a successful athlete, encountering naysayers, injuries and a career that nearly didn't happen, which he relates in his breezy, opinionated, and funny account from the front lines of the game. At 12, when he doesn't make the cut for his Little League all-star team, he takes the sting from that blow and using it as fuel to triumph over rejection, a turning-point lesson he will revisit again and again. "If they want to get me fired up, don't pick me. Bet against me.... When I'm the underdog, watch out." After Siragusa injures both knees in college, losing a season to rehab, he finds himself sitting out 12 rounds of the 1990 draft and not getting picked. The Colts ultimately sign him, but don't want him to even come for off-season workouts. Then the team doctor looks at his knees and says he'll be lucky to have a few years. So begins the first of Siragusa's 12 years in the NFL. Off the field, Goose's big mouth and antics turn him into a radio star, laying the groundwork after his retirement to become a commentator for Fox and cohost of the television show Man Caves. Although football lovers will appreciate the insider details, Siragusa is more than just the sum of his shoulder pads, offering an ode to tight-knit clans, small towns, and perseverance in the face of huge odds.

Mr.
Goose is an intelligent guy. That's why things come easy to him. But he also cares a lot about people. In his rough and tumble way, he manages to touch the lives of those around him. Too bad about Cameron's hand though.
Loved it
From one Jersey Guy to another, I read this book while going thru therapy for a neck injury. It got me thru a ruff time. Goose is not only a great athlete but a great person. Coming from a Giants fan , that's a huge compliment. Thanks , Rob S. Gilbert AZ formally Red Bank NJ
A Football Classic for Jersey and way beyond...
This book reads like you're sitting down and talking with Goose and listening to him tell stories from his childhood through the present day. If you love football, this book is a MUST READ. Pro Football insights and behind the scenes details, with his fearless honesty and complete disregard for whom he might offend (including Roger Goodell and the NFL), are way more detailed than you'll get from anyone else in his position. Great themes throughout championing the underdog, lifelong work ethics, and loyalty make it an inspiring read worth passing along to today's youth as well (over 13 as there are some Howard Stern moments in there). There's one chapter after another that made me stay up way past my bedtime for a few nights…
