"[A] huge and sprawling tale of horror." —The New York Times Book Review
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches—a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women.
Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale that challenges everything we believe in.

See AllVery good
I went from watching the AMC show to listening to the books. I’m loving the trilogy. Listening to “Interview with a Vampire” series alongside it too.
Loved it
Great read! Read this after watching the TV show really wish the TV show had followed the book better. Would highly recommend a someone else had to speed up the voice it does make it easier to read if you’re not used to that slow southern accent.
Kate is a fantastic narrator!
And Anne Rice has written a book to get lost in. I did listen to this on a faster speed because if you listen at regular speed the southern drawl with the long syllables and vowels makes this a very long book to listen to. The narrator is really great at capturing distinct vocal differences between the characters. I did get bored in the beginning with all the historical elements and paused listening to it for several months and I recently started again and sped up the audio and I’ve enjoyed it a lot more, since. Can’t wait to listen to Lasher!
