Margaret Simon, almost twelve, has just moved from New York City to the suburbs, and she’s anxious to fit in with her new friends. When she’s asked to join a secret club she jumps at the chance. But when the girls start talking about boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret starts to wonder if she’s normal. There are some things about growing up that are hard for her to talk about, even with her friends. Lucky for Margaret, she’s got someone else to confide in . . . someone who always listens.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The path to adolescence is rocky but oh-so-relatable in this absolute classic. When her parents decide to move from Manhattan to the New Jersey suburbs, 11-year-old Margaret Simon’s life is turned upside down. Facing all the challenges of puberty in a strange school with new friends, Margaret feels out of sorts and very alone. So in order to navigate all the drama surrounding boys, bras, and periods, Margaret chats with her bestie, God. Narrator Laura Hamilton captures all of Margaret’s subtle angst, endearing us to her at every step of her emotional journey. Just as charming and heartfelt as it was when it was first published in 1970, Judy Blume’s coming-of-age tale remains iconic.
