Vulgar Favors is a gloves-off examination of a sociopath whose life was almost impossibly extreme. Andrew Cunanan killed five people—including Gianni Versace—over three months in 1997. The sex, drugs, and unchecked narcissism that led up to his crimes and suicide were at least as tabloid-worthy as the murders themselves. Vanity Fair contributor Maureen Orth spares nothing in investigating and compiling this utterly riveting account. It paints a picture of a tragically disturbed man whose delusional obsession with wealth and glamour brought him a notorious seat in the limelight.

Mind-boggling. Blood-curdling. Brilliant.
What a book, what a journey, what a character. The story of Andrew Cunanan, his life and his murders, is so complicated and captivating, at times absurd and outrageous, but it is ultimately very sad. After watching American Crime Story, I felt an inexplicable urge to learn more about Cunanan, his personality and his background, the circumstances and the choices that would lead him to committing the crimes that would tear apart the fabric of so many lives. There are a lot of details that bear deep significance yet cannot be explained. There is a lot of intrigue, mystery and drama that is typically reserved for the best works of fiction, except all of this is based on the facts of real life. Indeed, sometimes destiny - or chance - can be the most talented story writer, but it does take a special person to meticulously gather and process variegated opinions and facts and present them into a fantastically well-written book that challenges your mind and soul.

This book has definitely gotten me ready for "The Assassination of Versace: American Crime Story"
Biased writing
Sadly, Orth is revealed as a bigot towards gay men and the gay community. The writing is illustrative of the derogatory view of gays held by many in the last century. She also is quite naive about drugs – without accuate knowledge and as if she’s talking to a 3rd grader. She is not a good writer. The nature of the material is of interest, but save your $10. It’s better to watch the 2018 TV Series.
