The beloved bestseller from Newbery Medalist and National Book Award winner Louis Sachar (Holes), with a brand-new cover!
“Give me a dollar or I’ll spit on you.”
That’s Bradley Chalkers for you. He’s the oldest kid in the fifth grade. He tells enormous lies. He picks fights with girls, and the teachers say he has serious behavior problems. No one likes him—except Carla, the new school counselor. She thinks Bradley is sensitive and generous, and she even enjoys his far-fetched stories. Carla knows that Bradley could change, if only he weren’t afraid to try.
But when you feel like the most hated kid in the whole school, believing in yourself can be the hardest thing in the world. . . .
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Why does Bradley Chalkers sit at the back of class all day, ripping up paper and threatening his classmates? Louis Sachar, the author of Holes, gets inside his young protagonist’s head just as he’s connecting with the new school counselor—and it’s both exciting and heartbreaking to watch Bradley struggle to change. Sachar provides plenty of funny moments to delight young readers, but the brilliance of his story comes from sensitively showing the difference between the outward image that people project and what’s going on inside. There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom is a perfect book to read together and discuss.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Fifth grader Bradley Chalkers is bright, imaginative, antisocial and friendless. Unlike the kids at school, who hate him, Bradley's collection of chipped and broken little pottery animals allows him to be brave, smart and vulnerable; he uses them to resolve the rejection of peers and adults. Jeff, a new boy at school, offers friendship but then withdraws his offer, because Bradley is hard to like. Enter Carla Davis, new school counselor, who is caring and funny, and who gradually helps restore Bradley's self-confidence. Feelings and emotions are strongly evoked in this touching and serious story of a disturbed child that is infused with humor and insight. (10-12)

GREAT Book!
This was a great book. I LOVED it! The ending was nice, and I liked how Bradley changed his actions. I also like Carla’s (Miss Davis) personality. Thank you Louis Sachar for writing such a great book for everyone to read. I smiled in the end because I loved the book.
