Publisher Description
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a seductive and suspenseful novel of dangerous liaisons and family betrayals…
Photographer Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she'd escaped the house called Sanctuary long ago. She'd spent her loneliest years there, after the sudden, unexplained disappearance of her mother. Yet the sprawling inn on an island off the Georgia coast continues to haunt her dreams. And now, even more haunting are the pictures someone is sending her: strange close-ups and candids, culminating in the most shocking portrait of all—a photo of her mother—naked, beautiful, and dead.
Now Jo must return to the island, and to her bitterly estranged family. With the help of Nathan Delaney—who was on the island the summer her mother disappeared—Jo hopes to learn the truth about the tragic past. But Sanctuary may be the most dangerous place of all.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
On the heel of the breakout hardcover success of bestseller Montana Sky, Roberts plows through a predictable saga of passion, betrayal and murder involving an estranged Southern family haunted by tragedy. Recovering from a nervous breakdown brought on by a malevolent stalker, photographer Jo Ellen Hathaway returns to Sanctuary, her childhood home located on a small resort island off the coast of Georgia. But the lush island offers little solace, for there Jo must face the troubled family relationships and painful memories caused by her mother's mysterious disappearance 20 years earlier. Soon, however, Jo finds unexpected joy in the love of a man who leads her to the truth about her mother's life and death and about the crazed stalker who wants Jo dead. Roberts has a talent for vivid description: the sounds and smells of this verdant island waft from the page; her characters' sexual encounters mirror the island's fecundity and shimmer with Southern heat. But she dilutes the story with a silly murder mystery that distracts from the intriguing elements of Jo's confrontation with her past, her discovery of true love and her reconciliation with her family. The denouement arrives with a yawn, despite the arrival of a cliched hurricane, which is just one example of how Roberts succumbs to the temptation to throw everything into the pot. 250,000 first printing; $250,000 ad/promo; Literary Guild main selection. FYI: Roberts was the first writer to be inducted into the Romance Writers of America's Hall of Fame.

Move over, Mary Higgins Clark!
That’s right, Mrs. Clark, move over! When it comes to romantic suspense, I feel that Nora Roberts is the true queen! Sanctuary is fantastic reading for all fans of this genre! Dealing with a beautiful photographer who moves back to the island where she was raised in an effort to get away from a stalker, this thrilling story centers around the decades-old disappearance of her mother, her attempts at reconciliation with her siblings, her chance meeting with an old flame from her teen years, leading to the them falling in love, and the horrifying mystery of whether or not her stalker has followed her to the island, especially after a series of brutal murders begins to plague the island. Who sent the protagonist a photo of her deceased, naked mother? Could her mother’s killer be the same one who is stalking the island? Concentrating on more than one romance wasn’t necessary to me, but I still think this is a terrific book! If you’re fan of Nora Roberts’ truly exciting romantic thrillers, you’ll love escaping to this suspenseful, chilling, romantic sanctuary! WARNING: I’ve only read the paperback edition of this book, which is what I prefer. But the other reviewer says that this ebook is not the book by Nora Roberts. You might want to make sure before you buy it.
Sanctuary
A thriller novel, but a bit too macabre for me.
Not the right book
This is not Nora Roberts' Sanctuary. It is another book called Sanctuary written by a different author.
