NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Star Wars: Lost Stars comes a thrilling novel set in the years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“Unmissable . . . Bloodline’s tense politics, vivid new characters, and perfectly characterized Leia make it feel as central to the Star Wars universe as one of the films.”Tordotcom

WITNESS THE BIRTH OF THE RESISTANCE

When the Rebellion defeated the Empire in the skies above Endor, Leia Organa believed it was the beginning to a lasting peace. But after decades of vicious infighting and partisan gridlock in the New Republic Senate, that hope seems like a distant memory.

Now a respected senator, Leia must grapple with the dangers that threaten to cripple the fledgling democracy—from both within and without. Underworld kingpins, treacherous politicians, and Imperial loyalists are sowing chaos in the galaxy. Desperate to take action, senators are calling for the election of a First Senator. It is their hope that this influential post will bring strong leadership to a divided galaxy.

As the daughter of Darth Vader, Leia faces with distrust the prospect of any one person holding such a powerful position—even when supporters suggest Leia herself for the job. But a new enemy may make this path Leia’s only option. For at the edges of the galaxy, a mysterious threat is growing. . . .

Praise for Bloodline

“[Claudia] Gray paints a much more complete galaxy than we often get to see on the big screen. . . . Knowing that Rian Johnson (writer, director of Star Wars: Episode VIII) had some creative input on the novel provides hope that we haven’t seen the last of all of these wonderful characters. . . . Star Wars: Bloodline isn’t just a great Star Wars book, or a great Leia book, or a great book; it’s a great introduction into the larger world of Star Wars in general.”ComicBookdotcom

Bloodline is a nonstop page-turner that grabs at heartstrings that you weren’t aware of and yanks down on every one of them. The story is loaded with context for The Force Awakens that plants the seeds for The First Order in perfectly haunting ways, and leaves the reader grasping for more details on newly discovered favorite characters.”Inverse

Depends on what you like

I’ve heard complaints that nothing of important happens in this book, yet I disagree. This book provides a thorough look into the political climate during a time that has not yet been explored too much in canon and I really enjoyed learning all the small details.

However, if you are a fan who isn’t into political dramas/ stories, this book may not be for you. While the action scenes are written quite well, they are few and far between. The story is very character driven, which I found very entertaining, especially since the majority of the characters are likable and well written.

The audio narrator does a generally fine job, but I personally found one voice she does for a specific character to be extremely annoying. This didn’t ruin the book for me, but it did make a few scenes hard to listen to and make me think illy of a character who may have otherwise seemed likable.

If you’re into political dramas and can handle a few annoying voices, then I would definitely recommend giving this a listen. If you’re not into that kind of story though, I think you should pass on this one.

If you felt the Sequels lacked political context, this makes up for it

Provides the political context of the New Republic and the Star Wars Galaxy for before Episode VII, which if you grew up with the Prequels you might feel is sort of missing in the Sequel movies. Helps you to connect more with Hosnian Prime (Capital World of the New Republic) too, and helps you to see how the Original Trilogy went into the Sequel Trilogy. Very well written, enjoyable, and as someone who Majored in Political Science, I felt it was very well researched and thought through. Senator Organa is excellently written and the other characters are also compelling. The reader does a great job as well.

If you hate Star Wars politics, this is probably not the book for you. But if you enjoyed it in the Prequels, and really wanted to see how it was after the Fall of Empire in the New Republic, this is the book for you.

Not Bad But Not Great Either

What I wonder is , would this book have been better if there were not constraints and points the Author had to work in ..Inconsistency, has plagued 98% of the Star Wars books that are lead ins to the new Trilogy and this book is a bit better but still lacks. The Bombshell is not the reveal but the “ How is that possible” moment that follows. Not sure I’ll listen to it again but not because the Narrator bothered me, she does a lot of Audiobooks almost all I have enjoyed but the new Thrawn books and the defunct Legend books are so much more enjoyable.
