Thought provoking and poetically written
The setting and characters create a vivid atmosphere full of a creeping dread and loss that is poetically conveyed. This is not a story about solving a mystery and uncovering some conspiracy. Despite wanting to figure things out, I realized that is not the point abd when I did my enjoyment increased. The narrative does not follow what is considered a western narrative arc which may or may not work for everyone.
Engaging but Depressing
I give it two stars because the writing is charming and engaging but I hated the story, which I found just depressing. I kept on reading expecting it to turn the corner and go somewhere — just disappointing.

Suitable for pre teens
This is the most sophomoric drivel I’ve read in a very long time. There were quite a few contradictions describing the same “item” or occurrence for instance. This was a great premise but it was so badly executed that it was painful to read. It was even more painful to listen to the narration.
