The unforgettable, inspiring story of a teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village who longs to get an education so that she can find her “louding voice” and speak up for herself, The Girl with the Louding Voice is a simultaneously heartbreaking and triumphant tale about the power of fighting for your dreams. Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her path, Adunni never loses sight of her goal of escaping the life of poverty she was born into so that she can build the future she chooses for herself – and help other girls like her do the same. Her spirited determination to find joy and hope in even the most difficult circumstances imaginable will “break your heart and then put it back together again” (Jenna Bush Hager on The Today Show) even as Adunni shows us how one courageous young girl can inspire us all to reach for our dreams…and maybe even change the world.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Nigerian native Abi Daré’s debut novel about the horror of forced marriage and slavery tackles the darkest extremes of patriarchy and sexism, yet it still manages to deliver a powerful message of optimism and hope. It was hard to listen to 14-year-old Adunni’s story without a hefty supply of tissues, but the young heroine’s warmth, humor, and determination shine through no matter how dark things get. Narrator Adjoa Andoh’s emotional reading of the novel—told from Adunni’s first-person perspective—makes this an intense and realistic listen. We felt like Daré’s heroine was talking directly to us. Visceral, heart-wrenching, and beautiful, The Girl with the Louding Voice reminds us to always use our own voices to demand justice in the world.

The Girl With The Louding Voice: 4 Star
TRIGGER WARNING this book references sexual and physical assault. I was not aware of this when I started reading. What seemed like a depressing story turning into a beautiful message of hope. This book is an emotional journey but the other side is worth it!
The Girl with the Loudin Voice
This was a wonderful book. I felt like I was there with the characters. The voices and the singing of the characters made it extra special. This is a book that I will never forget.
The Girl with the Louding Voice
I loved the soothing voice of the narrator and every part of the wonderful story. It was as beautiful as it was sad, hope and promise the perfect anecdote to the tragedy and pain.
