Loved this Hammer’s Slammers yarn

I always love the pacing of a Hammer’s Slammers novel and its description of the toll that warfare takes on people, not to mention the emotion, empathy and scruples that have be sidelined or suppressed entirely to be able to function as an effective mercenary. This one is no different and is told from the POV of a combat car platoon commander, Lieutenant Arne Huber, on one of his campaigns towards the early part of his career that gives him the experience to earn him a promotion to a company commander’s slot. My only quibble as a military veteran familiar with staff branches is that David Drake got a staff branch number different from what is standard and so it was a bit disconcerting: Traditionally, S4 is Logistics while S1 is Personnel.
