We’re huge fans of Kate DiCamillo’s poignant, emotionally complex middle-grades novels. Flora & Ulysses is no exception, and it might also be the most hilarious of all her books. The heroine, Flora, is a “natural-born cynic” who loves superhero comics, much to the chagrin of her cranky, romance-novelist mother. When Flora meets a squirrel that has supernatural powers (including the ability to write poetry), she senses that amazing things are about to happen—and meets a cast of sweet and eccentric but lonely characters. DiCamillo’s delightful use of vocabulary (Malfeasance! Obfuscation! Capacious!) adds to the story’s fun, warmhearted messages about friendship, family, and love, as do K.G. Campbell’s clever illustrations. It’s enough to melt the defenses of even the most cynical among us.

It was such a good book because it was hilarious, it’s purpose was amazing, I love the turns and twists in the book, and finally it will make the reader keep reading because it is so good and interesting.

I❤️ this book. It is a really good plot and is interesting. I love how Flora is all the time thinking how Ulysses could be a super hero.
