Publisher Description
"Cole weaves a fantasy world that feels comfortably familiar, then goes to places you’d never expect. You won’t stop turning pages until the stunning finish." —Peter V. Brett
Myke Cole, star of CBS's Hunted and author of the Shadow Ops series, debuts the Sacred Throne epic fantasy trilogy with The Armored Saint, a story of religious tyrants, arcane war-machines, and underground resistance that will enthrall epic fantasy readers of all ages.
In a world where any act of magic could open a portal to hell, the Order insures that no wizard will live to summon devils, and will kill as many innocent people as they must to prevent that greater horror. After witnessing a horrendous slaughter, the village girl Heloise opposes the Order, and risks bringing their wrath down on herself, her family, and her village.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
SF/F thriller author Cole (Siege Line) makes an uninspiring first venture into epic fantasy with this flat trilogy opener, which is unoriginal in its cod medieval Europe setting, idealized peasant characters, and generally portentous tone. Sixteen-year-old peasant girl Heloise aspires to something other than marriage and babies, but she lives in a dangerous world: at any time, hidden wizards could suddenly turn into interdimensional portals, allowing terrible demons to come through and devour everyone and everything she loves. Only the clich d Order of religious knights can keep the demons back by hunting and destroying the wizards. But the order is itself, of course, a cruelly despotic organization, and knights nearly kill Heloise upon their first encounter with her for no reason except that they don't think peasant lives are worth very much. When her village is forced to take part in brutally and protractedly massacring another village, an operation conducted on suspicions of wizardry that Heloise knows to be false, she finds herself and her family and friends set against the Order and the demons are still a problem. The entire book is focused on getting Heloise to the climactic fight scene, which then proceeds completely predictably, and the book ends just when it seems like something might start to happen.
Customer Reviews
Wonderful writing and characters, but felt like half a book.
It is very rare that I get hooked this quickly in a fantasy book. The characters, the plot, the fight of good against evil, the unseen twists, all really well done. His explanation of love and the corruption of those who choose to label it really hit home. But, like others have said, it’s over just as you really get involved. It feels like one of those books that was split into chapters to have you buy the next. I didn’t realize I was only buying 1/3 of a story. If you’re publishing it in this format, don’t charge the price of a full book for a fraction of the story.
Other than that, well worth your time.

Really liked it but a bit short
This was an enjoyable read with some interesting concepts and characters, but it felt too short. Right when it felt like it was getting going it was over. That being said, I will be buying part two and can’t wait to see what happens!
