NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the final book in The Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan confronts the Norse gods Loki and Hel to stop the impending apocalypse, while Granuaile and Owen work to secure the future of Druidry.

“[Kevin] Hearne draws his Iron Druid Chronicles to a pitch-perfect close in this dizzy, world-hopping adventure. But amidst the battles and bargaining that go into saving the world, there is also an enormous amount of heart.”—RT Book Reviews

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

Granuaile MacTiernan must join immortals Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen in a fight against the Yama Kings in Taiwan, and she discovers that the stakes are much higher than she thought.

Meanwhile, Archdruid Owen Kennedy must put out both literal and metaphorical fires from Bavaria to Peru to keep the world safe for his apprentices and the future of Druidry.

And Atticus recruits the aid of a tyromancer, an Indian witch, and a trickster god in hopes that they’ll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. There is a hound named Oberon who deserves a snack, after all.

Bad last book and too political

This is a sad end to otherwise good series. Rushed battles with long diatribes and lots of politically charged preaching. As his newer works are liberal propaganda and you get the sense that it really started to ramp up in this book. Luke Daniels is an amazing narrator but I’ll never read or listen to anything Kevin Hearne ever produces again. I read fantasy to escape, not to be preached at with a political agenda.

Disappointing End

*Spoilers*
Firstly, the narrator is sublime by the last book just want to make that clear, one of the best I’ve recently had the pleasure to listen to. However…
I like to read for the escape. If I want to read a sad lonesome ending like this I would just live a day in reality. Too much environmentalists things going on in the background. Nothing against that mind you it’s just not why I want to read fantasy fiction. I put up with it until this book but in the end too much just doesn’t make logical arguments or decisions without it. It’s funny how Atticus was punished because he kept his word (you know my word is my bond) and punished severely by the gods… but an old man (her stepfather in point of fact) being beaten half to death by the stepdaughter is overlooked by author and gods alike… I admit I was never comfortable with every moral decision either character made. But Atticus striving to not harm mortals at least seemed to me much more morally acceptable than revenge to a stepfather who didn’t pay attention 14 years after leaving his house. This author pays a lot of tribute to Shakespeare and old Greek tragedies and I suppose the story reflects that in a sad and disappointing fashion. Don’t think I’ll be reading more books by him but I did appreciate the narration and truly enjoyed it from that perspective.
