Publisher Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of Fooling Around comes a steamy novel about a pampered princess who’s starting over—and the hot guy next door who knows exactly how to melt that tiara right off.

Alison Davies used to just be a trophy wife. Now she’s just flat broke. Thanks to an ironclad prenup, she’s worse off than she was before the day she rushed down the aisle with a wealthy jerk eight years ago. After her steep fall from riches to rags, Alison refuses to shackle herself to any man who treats her like a possession—no matter how good he looks in a pair of well-worn jeans, or how his muscles ripple while he’s carrying her couch.

Underneath his rugged exterior, Rob West is a gentleman. So when he sees his beautiful new neighbor moving in, he’s going to help her out no matter how loudly she protests. In fact, Alison’s determination to go it alone just strengthens his resolve—and his desire to find out what makes her tick. But after one spur-of-the-moment tumble in the sheets, it’s clear that their connection goes way deeper. And that Rob won’t be happy until Alison surrenders to the passion they share.

Finding true happiness means not hiding our real selves

I enjoyed this story. These were two people who had a lot of baggage that kept them from seeing what was right in front of their noses. Rob had the overwhelming need to help others, to never show weakness. Allison threw away her past to learn to be independent. As they got to know each other, their insecurities became stronger. I could see 'real' in these characters. What people see on the outside is often how we are perceived to be. As the emotions became stronger, I became more invested in the story.

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

Excellent

After eight years Alison Davies has had enough. She's tired of being the "trophy wife" of a complete jerk. Yes, she has everything she needs and more but it's just not enough. So, regardless of the prenup she signed she wants out. Now! Basically penniless Alison is ready to start a new life. Moving to a new town and getting a job in a small diner Alison is finally getting to experience life. Learning to do things for herself gives her little thrills no one would ever understand. So maybe there is a gorgeous, very helpful guy across the street. So maybe he's a little more than interested in Alison. She can resist. She should resist. Until she doesn't.....

I really enjoyed this story. It was fun to watch as Alison learns to be independent and strong. As she slowly learns that someone helping doesn't mean she's dependent on them the relationship between herself and Rob changes. These two worked well together. I definitely recommend this one!

Alison leaves her husband of eight years because there is no love in her marriage and she's nothing more than a trophy to him. Determined to stand on her own two feet, she moves into the family home that was left to her after the death of her parents. Her first day in town, she meets her neighbor, Rob, but refuses any help from him in her quest for independence. Rob is drawn to people who need him. When his new, attractive neighbor moves in, he has to find a way to get to know her better and get her to go on a date with him.

I had difficulty connecting to the characters in this story. There was a lot of talk in the book about the pull that the characters had toward each other but I just never felt it. I liked that there was dual POV. I loved the little notes that Rob left for Alison every morning at breakfast.
