In 1429, a 17-year-old peasant girl receives a message from Heaven that she is to rescue France from its English oppressors. Within two years this most unlikely of heroines leads a ragtag army to victory, sees the king crowned, and dies at the stake, martyred by traitors. America's most famous storyteller, Mark Twain, was obsessed with the story of Joan of Arc, and labored 12 years to tell it in this novel, which he considered his masterpiece.
Customer Reviews
Joan of Arc.
Great story of a true patron saint. It was like reading about Jesus’s demise at the end. Heartbreaking yet wonderful.
An Sensational Read
This book has captured my attention since I began reading it. Joan has inspired me, much like she inspired her soldiery, to become a better man and individual.
His Best Book Ever
Probably one of the least known of all his works, the Joan of Arc story is the best of all his works. Absolutely brilliant in breathing life and bright colors into the faded tale of on of mankind’s most important figures.
