Deborah Harkness’s sparkling debut, A Discovery of Witches, has brought her into the spotlight and galvanized fans around the world. In this tale of passion and obsession, Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford's Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.

Harkness has created a universe to rival those of Anne Rice, Diana Gabaldon, and Elizabeth Kostova, and she adds a scholar's depth to this riveting tale of magic and suspense. The story continues in book two, Shadow of Night, book three, The Book of Life, and the fourth in the series, Time’s Convert.

Well written for what it si

Don’t get this book confused, it’s a romance novel. It’s plot is slow, more detail given to the relationship (as unrealistic as it is) then to the story. Not at all my cup of tea, I was looking for some kind of adventure magic story or something. Rest assured this is not that. However, I can recognize it is well written. If you’re looking for a better written Twilight, this is your book, complete with broody vampires, damsels in distress, angsty hormones and all. It’s not the worst book I’ve ever read, but probably wouldn’t read again.

It’s okay.

The narrators voice is a little robotic so it’s something to get used to. As far as the plot it is dragged out and unrealistic. For instance no one straight out warns the main character(Diana) of the problems. They dance around it and let her find out the hard way. It seems every character just wants things to be harder for Diana. It’s a okay book with romance, suspense and mystery but There’s a high chance I won’t read this again which is rare for me.

Someone said it’s about tea but I think it was about eggs and wine as well
I like that tho! I came looking for answers what the demons do or whatever and now I get it 🧐
