Pretty good overall.
I borrowed this book from a co-worker after reading the 50 Shades trilogy. I realize it's an erotic novel, but the sex scenes become somewhat repetitive. I found myself skipping some paragraphs in the sex scenes because the description of what the characters were doing were the same as prior scenes.
No character development leads the book to feel somewhat bland. Carew focuses on describing body parts in detail rather than the surroundings and setting, leading the book to be carried by the sex scenes.
Another negative factor is the "secret" that Erik holds. It's a little odd and is used as the "climax" point in the book, but once again it's not something major that leaves the reader to think "what's going to happen next". In all honesty, Illicit is pretty predictable.
This book has potential, yet it falls short with the plot and overall feel. I read it in one sitting, within 4 hrs.
