Publisher Description
Based on the smash-hit audio serial, Bubble is a hilarious high-energy graphic novel with a satirical take on the “gig economy.”
Built and maintained by corporate benevolence, the city of Fairhaven is a literal bubble of safety and order (and amazing coffee) in the midst of the Brush, a harsh alien wilderness ruled by monstrous Imps and rogue bands of humans. Humans like Morgan, who’s Brush-born and Bubble-raised and fully capable of fending off an Imp attack during her morning jog. She’s got a great routine going—she has a chill day job, she recreationally kills the occasional Imp, then she takes that Imp home for her roommate and BFF, Annie, to transform into drugs as a side hustle. But cracks appear in her tidy life when one of those Imps nearly murders a delivery guy in her apartment, accidentally transforming him into a Brush-powered mutant in the process. And when Morgan’s company launches Huntr, a gig economy app for Imp extermination, she finds herself press-ganged into kicking her stabby side job up to the next level as she battles a parade of monsters and monstrously Brush-turned citizens, from a living hipster beard to a book club hive mind.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Barely ever stopping for a breath, this sci-fi adventure comedy (adapted from the popular podcast) bounds from one escapade to another while keeping up a running satirical patter. The setting is an alien planet where human settlers are divided between cosseted urbanites living in corporate-controlled domed cities and those roughing it out in the "Brush" where mutant Imps roam free. In the Fairhaven dome, Morgan is a onetime "Brush Baby" who uses her knife skills to kill the occasional Imp when it sneaks into the dome. She, her roommate Annie (a casually polyamorous bespoke drug manufacturer), ex-boyfriend and parkour enthusiast Van (widely beloved "Even with the unfortunate toe rings"), and lovable loser Mitch get sucked into a conspiracy involving an app for gig-economy Imp killers called Huntr. The blow-out fight scenes—drawn by Cliff with a fizz-bomb energy that recalls his similarly caffeinated Delilah Dirk series—come fast and furious and are littered with sarcastic one-liners and snarky takes on everything from John Mayer to TGI Fridays, book club wine moms, Frasier, CrossFit, and bearded podcast dudes with "hot takes" ("It's time for a male Wonder Woman!"). The critique of the gig economy is just discernible beneath the smashmouth confrontations, and the relationship comedy (tangled on-again, off-again connections and flirtations throughout) is surprisingly earnest. It's a recklessly fun, hoot and holler of a ride.

Sunset Overdrive meets Borderlands
I enjoyed this graphic novel so much! I am familiar with Jordan from Good Mythical Morning. Once I caught word of his work (I believe through a Ronstadt subreddit post), I hopped to the store to pick up a copy alongside “The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek”. As an aspiring writer, I loved seeing the passion and energy put into this graphic novel. It has hilarious tones, and practically everything I could want in a novel. I believe I started in the wrong order.. considering this is based on a podcast! I can’t wait to dive further into the Bubble!
Riess’s work in this graphic novel was amazing as well! I like to fill my time with dabbling in other creative hobbies like art when I’m not racking my brain in college courses. Natalie Riess put so much attention in each and every page. I found this both motivating, and inspiring!
