An Indie Next Pick!
Some people are extraordinary. Some are just extra. TJ Klune's YA debut, The Extraordinaries, is a queer coming-of-age story about a fanboy with ADHD and the heroes he loves.
Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fanfiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right?
After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick's best friend (and maybe the love of his life).
Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl meets Marissa Meyer's Renegades in TJ Klune's YA debut.

Tremendous Teenage Humor, Angst, Quiet Pain
Author TJ Klune does his usual amazing job writing about the deep, deep thoughts, pain, love, cluelessness and quiet angst of queer teenage boys (in thier not-so-smartness) and girls (in thier astonishment at how not-so-smart teenage boys are). When you add in a neuro-atypical character, some superheroes, agreat humor and some meaningful drama, you’ve got a mixture for success. Narrator Michael Lesley is the perfect narrator to bring all the sass, snark, humor, and depth of emotion to all the characters, not just the main ones. I laughed out loud more than once while listening. Author! Author! Encore!
