I absolutely love this book.. Can't wait to read part 2!!!
I Tried
There’s a big difference between Storytelling and Writing. Storytelling has to do with understanding literary structure and the mastery to manipulate it; Writing is simply being able to communicate clearly according to the defined rules within grammar. Having said that, Hayes is a very strong writer, but a terrible storyteller.
Basically Kevin has no arc (he just changes because he’s tired—it doesn’t work that way). Theres too much story given to these side characters (not to mention they’re super cliche and flat) and the plot devices are predictable which made me skim to the end.
Kudos to Hayes for finishing his first book, but I hope his Storytelling improved over his next handful of novels. Honestly, I don’t have the time to waste to see if he did.
