APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Rupi Kaur’s poetry is known for being direct and personal—and her third collection may be the most intimate yet. The Instagram-famous author of the best-selling Milk and Honey writes unflinchingly about enduring sexual abuse and sinking into depression, but she also evokes small childhood memories from her immigrant family’s life. She practically makes us smell the dal and roti her mom used to make in their basement apartment while her father was away driving trucks cross-country, nearly dying of overwork. In many of her poems, Kaur reflects on her own history, as well as the larger world around her, through the lens of today’s antiracist and gender equality movements, capturing our current moment in memorably personal terms.
