Such a great book
This book is criminally underrated, IMHO. I first heard of Robert Holdstock through Prof. Michael D.C. Drout’s Portable Professor lecture series from Barnes & Noble back in 2008. In his lecture on modern fantasy he mentioned the Mythago books as a good example of Fantasy that’s not Tolkienesque. I picked up the first two books, Mythago Wood and Lavondyss. Great books that should receive more attention than they have.
Wonderful Tale
Very imaginative and original. It’s as if the story cannot decide if it wants to be a fantasy tale or a ghost story. Well thought out and crafted. There’s nothing here that’s trite or predictable, and nothing too grandiose or simple.
Heart of Britishness
A bosky Anomaly is generating psychic manifestations of cultural figures in rural England, investigated by a WW2 vet whose father and brother have been consumed by the Mystery, but Horrors await him.
