AT THE EMPEROR’S COMMAND
Multiple races carefully navigate the City of Elantra under the Dragon Emperor’s wing. His Imperial Wolves are executioners, the smallest group to serve in the Halls of Law. The populace calls them assassins.
Every wolf candidate must consent to a full examination by the Tha’alani, one of the most feared and distrusted races in Elantra for their ability to read minds. Most candidates don’t finish their job interviews.
Severn Handred, the newest potential recruit, is determined to face and pass this final test—even if by doing so he’s exposing secrets he has never shared.
When an interrogation uncovers the connections to a two-decade-old series of murders of the Tha’alani, the Wolves are commanded to hunt. Severn’s first job will be joining the chase. From the High Halls to the Tha’alani quarter, from the Oracles to the Emperor, secrets are uncovered, tensions are raised and justice just might be done…if Severn can survive.
The Wolves of Elantra
Book 1: The Emperor’s Wolves
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Sagara's exciting first Wolves of Elantra fantasy, a prequel to her Chronicles of Elantra series, follows the Wolves, the executioners' division of Elantra's Halls of Law, as they hunt for the culprit of a two-decades-old murder. While Elluvian, an immortal Barrani, is out spying on a member of the Hawks, another division of the Halls of Law, he notices he's not the only one snooping: human Severn Handrid is also watching the Hawks, apparently interested in the girl they are guarding. Impressed that Severn is able to remain undetected, Elluvian recruits him to the Wolves, a multistep process that involves a long period of probation. While still on probation, Severn joins the murder investigation, one of the most difficult cases the Wolves have ever had. In the course of his investigation, he's nearly killed by Barrani, upsets leaders of other races, and risks the trust of Ybelline, the future leader of the Tha'alani, a race that can read minds, allowing her to experience his darkest secret. Both new readers and Sagara's long-time fans will be delighted to visit the land and people of Elantra.

The Emperor’s Wolves
Another great book! I expect complex story lines and characters in her books and I get them. New concepts are presented and skillfully woven into the story lines. Story lines are woven into unexpected endings. And, while all that is going on, tantalizing hints are dropped about what will happen next.
Amazing on its own
This is the spine to Kaylins Elantra of the
Born In
series.
I am so grateful for The Wolves of Elantra.
Please give us more from Severns voice…. We need more of him in our world.
Too many jumps and gaps
I want to love this the books the premise is excellent and unique. Interesting characters but the pace and jumps on the story make it a challenge. When you write such a unique story things need to be explained along the way. Yet here in this story a street kid becomes Sherlock Holmes walking the halls of power….. without context and background and what is an Oracle? Is it a foretelling or a title or both? Whatever it is explain it for us the author assumes knowledge she has not yet provided to readers. So I spent my money will I try the next book yes I will but I will not try any other books till I am confident it will be money well spent.
