Publisher Description
First love gets a second chance when a mischievous dog finds a way to keep fetching the town librarian’s high school sweetheart in this charming small-town romance.
The last person librarian Elinor Rodriguez wants to spend time with is her first love, Levi Jackson, but it seems her mischievous rescue dog has other ideas. Without fail, Dory slips from the house whenever Elinor’s back is turned. And in Pine Hollow, calls about a dog herding cars on Main Street go straight to Levi. The quietly intense lawman broke Elinor’s heart once, and now she’s determined to move on, no matter how much she misses him.
As the kid who barely graduated—and still struggles to hide his dyslexia—Levi always believed that Elinor was way out of his league. Even though he ended their engagement all those years ago, Elinor still takes Levi’s breath away whenever he sees her. But with a little help from a four-legged friend, Levi and Elinor may just get the second chance they deserve.
Includes the bonus novella I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Hope Ramsay!
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Shane returns to Pine Hollow, Vt., for a third time with this adorable second chance romance (after Once upon a Puppy). Jane Austen–loving school librarian Elinor Rodriguez was blindsided when police chief Levi Jackson, her childhood sweetheart, broke off their engagement with no explanation. Three years later, Elinor and Levi are thrown back into contact nearly every day as he corrals her dog, the recently adopted Dory, an escape-prone Australian shepherd fond of trying to herd cars on Main Street. Dyslexic Levi never believed he was enough for Elinor, and misguidedly broke up with her for her own good—only realizing after the fact that he'd made the biggest mistake of his life. Now Levi works up the courage to tell Elinor he wants to get back together, but Elinor is hesitant: Can she trust that he won't drop her again? While Levi's contrived reasons for breaking up with Elinor are hard to swallow, anyone who's faced heartbreak will easily empathize with Elinor's fear, and Shane makes their attraction believable. Lovers of small-town romance will eagerly await the next installment.

Delightful second chance romance
I fell in love with this cover and knew I wanted to read this book before I even knew what it was about. Isn’t that dog on the cover absolutely adorable? Elinor and Levi were engaged to be married, but he broke things off with no explanation. Second chance romance is a favorite trope of mine, so this was a win-win for me. Dory, Elinor’s mischievous, escape artist, fur baby keeps bringing Levi and Elinor together. Does Dory want to be a matchmaker or will Elinor and Levi figure out they were meant to be together? Grab your copy and see what happens in this delightful book that left me with a smile on my face. I’ve had a difficult month, so this was a great way to get back to reading, after a three week lapse. I can’t wait to read more from this new to me author.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
