Publisher Description
Chocolate should not be associated with sudden death. Claire is only guiding readers to the sites of mystery books; she isn't responsible for the body in the chocolate factory. She doesn't want to discover murder in the city of York or any part of Yorkshire where she takes her curious tourists.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Set in Yorkshire, Dakin's straightforward third British Book Tour mystery (after 2020's Crime in Cornwall) kicks off with a visit by guide Claire Barclay and her tour group to the City of York's world-renowned Shambles Chocolate factory. There, eccentric chemist Phillip Saunders, Claire's one charge not over 60, slips away and wanders into a restricted area. After a reprimand from the security guard, who fears Phillip might be trying to steal factory secrets, he's released to rejoin the group. A short time later, Claire sees Phillip returning to the factory and follows him. Inside, she literally stumbles over the body of the security guard, who's been stabbed to death. Claire, aided by her lover, Det. Insp. Mark Evans, investigates. Readers should be prepared for minimal sleuthing amid long digressions on local history, writers, and such touristy concerns as restaurant menus. Claire and Mark's at times contentious relationship provides some romantic interest. This is basically a travelogue with book suggestions.
