When we first meet Elizabeth, she wakes to find she is in a covered wagon on her way to the Land Run with Liza's husband, Ben. Liza Mae is someone Elizabeth "slips" into from time to time. Elizabeth is not crazy about cooking over an open fire or the lack of fast food, but she is excited about the Land Run and really likes Ben. Just as things get exciting, she awakens in her dorm room in Minnesota. Her life has been changed by Beth (another slipper), who has somehow managed to not only get the messy Elizabeth organized and bring up her grades, but to befriend her health nut of a roommate and find her a boyfriend. Later, she awakens to an apartment of girls as Beth, 1959 single New York City girl who is always on the prowl for Mr. Right.
Not that life isn't complicated enough, she is warned by another slipper to not change history. How does she know what will or will not change history? And what harm can come from getting Beth and her friends to stop smoking or for Liza to become more independent?
We have all wondered what changing lives with someone else would be like. Elizabeth's journey through life shows the ups and downs of living as different people in different times and places.
