He’s a Scotsman through and through with the kilt and loch-side manor to prove it
Savannah Adelson spent years sacrificing her midwife career for what she thought was love. Now that she’s kicked her cheating ex to the curb, she’s transforming her long-forgotten dream into a thriving business. Amid her new patients, she manages to travel to Scotland to be a bridesmaid in her college friend’s wedding only to meet the cousin of the groom, a tall shot of whisky in a tartan glass.
Rhys Mackinnon has grown restless and is eager to find his next role in life, whatever that may be. When he meets Savannah, he’s all too happy to make that role her personal tour guide. He ends up playing boyfriend too after her ex shows up unannounced.
When the fictional relationship begins to feel real, Savannah’s torn between the fire she feels for Rhys and the passion she has for her career. No matter what she decides, someone will end up hurt, because what happens in the castle doesn’t always stay there.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
McKnight concludes the What Happens trilogy (after What Happens in the Ruins) with a mild, formulaic contemporary romance. Midwife Savannah Adelson travels to Scotland from New York for her college friend's wedding and spends the train ride to the Highlands engaged in playful banter with Scotsman Rhys Mackinnon. After saying their goodbyes, they're pleasantly surprised when Rhys shows up at her friend's castle a short time later and they learn they are attending the same wedding. With bride and groom engrossed in wedding preparations, Rhys is happy to act first as Savannah's tour guide and then as her pretend boyfriend when her cheating ex shows up. Though the love story is thin on conflict and surprisingly tame, the close relationship between Savannah and her college BFFs is touching and well-rendered. Series fans will be satisfied by this sweet if unremarkable romance.

What Happens in the Castle
Beautifully written. Previous characters from the first books in series were well threaded in the story; detailed description of history and the places, added to the plot of the 2 main characters which was the best of all. Thank you, for a great read.
Perfect Ending
I love this book so much, it’s the 3rd of the series and it couldn’t have been a better ending to all three books. I will definitely read them all again.
Highland Romance
Savannah recently broke up with her long-time selfish cheating boyfriend Bill when she meets Rhys on a train to her friend’s wedding to a Laird. At first she uses him to keep her ex at bay, but their pretend romance becomes real. Can a vacation romance turn into more? I loved the Highland games, dancing, and all the cool places Rhys took Savannah to. There were so many hidden gems that I would love to visit if I ever go there. Rhys was straight out of a sexy storybook romance. I laughed at how Bill tried to show him up, but he just couldn’t compare. This was a sexy, funny, Highland romance.
