Her warning remains mysterious until seven years later, when the Montoyas are pursued by a malevolent man who visits death and destruction on their extended family. This book was a beautiful telling of one woman, Orquídea Divina, bastard daughter of the waves, and how her life had shaped out to be. Intertwined in this story are tales of magic, her five husbands, her large family tree, river monsters, fairy’s, and the ability to conjure up the beautiful scenes set in place by the author. I love a good book that is a quick read that combines magic and nature. The entire time I was reading it, it did remind me of another book that I had read during the pandemic.
Also, I felt that some of the parts could have been longer or gone into more details. To me, it felt like the ending of the book was sort of rushed. What could have been an epic battle at the end was underwhelming in a way, and I wish they had done a bit more explaining of Orquidea’s past and answers to her families questions, as well as expanding a bit with the Falling Star. Due to those reasons, I have brought my rating from 5 down to 4 stars! It was definitely enjoyable though and I would recommend this book.
