When an agent of the secret police blackmails him for accepting a dollar of foreign currency from the son of his mother's U.S. diplomat client, and promises life-saving medication for his grandfather, Cristian is forced to inform on his loved ones. Romania 1989 inside perspective
Firsthand perspective from inside Romania leading up to and including the student uprising of 1989. Immediately drew me in. I was a student when I read about & saw TV images.
This author is amazingly talented. Crisp and concise with depth, knowledge and wit. Characters are well developed; the kind you miss when the novel ends.
Interesting
I have to say, that even though this wasn’t my favorite book it wasn’t bad. Usually I hate reading historical fiction that takes place in other countries because I don’t understand anything that is going on. This was a book that totally made sense. Although some parts of the book were slow, the characters were mostly liked and this book had humor history, and romance. Overall, definitely a recommended read
Absolutely a must read.
Excellent plot and character development, wonderful study of family and kids and neighbors. Enlightening about the revolution in Romania in the 80s.
