Publisher Description
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning epic remains his undisputed masterpiece.
Set against the background of dust bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of the Joad family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel West in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human yet majestic in its scale and moral vision; an eloquent tribute to the endurance and dignity of the human spirit.

Grapes of wrath
To previous reviewer, brilliant book, Steinbeck is not only a writer but a philosopher. Some of the writing is so good you need to read it twice to appreciate it's beauty and depth.
Can't tell if it's good or not
I downloaded the sample as with the iBookstore I though it would give some classics I had overlooked a try. Imagine my disappointment when the sample only contained the introduction _about_ the author and book and none of the actual book itself. How can I tell if an authors style or the story will grip me if I cannot see any of it. The samples should at least contain some of the first chapter.
