Publisher Description

Matthew's parents are worried. At eleven, he's much too old to have an imaginary friend, yet they find him talking to and arguing with a presence that even he admits is not physically there. This presence - Chocky - causes Matthew to ask difficult questions and say startling things: he speaks of complex mathematics and mocks human progress. Then, when Matthew does something incredible, it seems there is more than the imaginary about Chocky. Which is when others become interested and ask questions of their own: who is Chocky? And what could it want with an eleven-year-old boy?

A story of innocence and alien contact, Chocky is a sinister tale of manipulation and experimentation from afar.

Fantastic book marred by misprints and missing ending

A fantastic book, but the iBook version has a lot of typo errors and worst of all, THE ENDING IS MISSING. I will be following this up with complaints to Penguin and the iBook store.

Chocky. This version not proof read, full of errors.

I read this book when I was was young and it has special place place in my heart. Wyndham's straight forward prose is very much of it's time but is refreshing to read when compared some of the more flamboyant work of recent times. The main characters are awfully middle class and seem to have been summoned from bygone era of postwar British black and white movies.

While the story retains it's charm and unexpectedly modern eco-message, this presentation is a pitiful mess. It is clear that the original text has been scanned by OCR technology but has not been proof read. There are many spelling errors, mis-scanned words and odd line breaks. Also, the print version contains an image of a swimming medal on the final page which finishes the book in a very satisfactory manner. It is missing from this edition and as such, the ending makes no sense.

I recommend you do not buy this version of this book and would avoid the series should they to have been treated this way.
