Gareth Sutcliffe ,

Patchy & Short

This is a short read, with some good information in a few of the sections, however all too often this book asks questions that no one really needs to ask as common sense has already provided the answer - For example "A dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's".

It is a bit expensive also for the size of it. I would recommend Bad Science by Ben Goldacre as an alternative book.

At first glance this book seemed perfect for me as I was already a fan of Bad Science by Ben Goldacre. However I was greatly disappointed by the level and quality of information contained within.

Whilst there was the occasional nugget of interesting information, on whole the book came across as poorly researched and poorly explained. The quality of information was inconsistent and on at least one occasion there was a complete departure from robust scientific reasoning to rely on what can only be described as anecdotal evidence. I was also quite surprised when the author described the urushiol found in poison ivy sap as 'contagious'.
