Great book - shame about the shocking Penguin ePub conversion
This comment is really to warn people that the version of the book I downloaded from iBookstore in December 2011 is littered with typographical errors.
There are literally multiple spelling mistakes on every page - I'm talking about the kinds of typos that the most basic spellcheck would pick up.
The typos are so egregious as to significantly distract the reader from the content of the book. I've requested a refund via Apple support.
Given the nature of the mistakes it seems clear that Penguin have OCR'd a hard copy version of the book (I.e. they have scanned in each physical page and had a computer attempt to recognise the letters via Optical Character Recognition). Quite incredible that in this day and age someone thought that was a good idea rather than getting hold of the original InDesign file - or whatever format they use.
Steve Coll's brilliant and painstaking researched book deserves a good deal more care than it has received in this electronic conversion.
Typos galore
Good book but full of typos!! How can this be possible?
