The epic first instalment in the thrilling War of the Roses series, perfect for fans of Game of Thrones, Bernard Cornwell and Wolf Hall.
King Henry V - the great Lion of England - is dead.
It's up to his son to take the throne, but frail in body and mind, he is dependent on his supporters to run his kingdom.
Richard, Duke of York, believes that without a strong king England will fall.
And as the threat from France grows, and rebellion on home soil spreads, his fears seem justified.
Who can save the throne?
Who will defend the kingdom?

History in Living Colour (& Smells)
Roy McMillan does a first rate job of narrating this vivid, gritty retelling of the events which lead to the Wars of the Roses, including the dark deeds around the downfall of England’s rule in parts of France.
The hardcore history buffs listening will make allowances for the occasional liberties taken by the author, feeling relief at the comprehensive author’s notes at the end, explaining the decisions; all in service of story telling, thus quite excusable.
His particular skill is the vividness of his prose, which shines in the visceral battle scenes, leaving you feeling as exhausted as the story’s warriors, smeared with blood, spit and crud, and desiring to lean on your sword, to catch your breath and swill some refreshing ale.
A world populated by fascinating characters; all of whom posses a mix of likeable and dislikable traits, which are threaded elegantly into a complex tapestry of pacy, thumping story telling.
