APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
A young marketing executive named Olivia walks into an alleyway with no way out and vanishes into thin air. It becomes known as the “dead-end disappearance”. From this intriguing foundation, McAllister constructs a fiendishly clever thriller, full of emotion, well-observed wit, moral dilemmas and yelp-inducing plot twists. Obsessive detective Julia is desperate to crack the case and help make amends for the missing girl she failed to find a year previously—meanwhile, she’s protecting her own daughter’s darkest secret and fending off a blackmailer close to home. The way these plot strands interweave is a triumph of story construction. McAllister spins an intricate web of computer hackers and police informants, grieving parents and online trolls, corrupt cops and ticking clocks. With every day that passes, the chances of finding Olivia alive diminish. But is Julia better off not finding her? An ingenious, genre-bending thriller to make your head spin and pulse race.
Customer Reviews
Ok
I hated, I hated, I hated how Lewis, one of the characters, says everything three times, three times, three times. A clumsy devise. Apart from that it is quite intriguing.
Loved it
This is only the second book by this author that I’ve read but I absolutely loved it and I love her writing style. Such an interesting plot with a lot of unexpected twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
Twisty & engaging
Great twist & really engaging book. Sailed through it, as enjoyed it so much.
