Publisher Description
Dixie is the youngest Diamond girl. She and her sisters - dreamy Martine, glamorous Rochelle and tough Jude - could hardly be more different, but their mum has always tried to teach them the value of sticking together.
Now Mum's expecting yet another baby, and she's convinced this one's a boy. She insists they move to a bigger place - but it's rough, dilapidated and filthy, and before they've even unpacked, Mum's gone into labour! Can the Diamond girls pull together in time for her to come home? And will anyone spot Mum's little secret but Dixie?

Reread this as an adult…
I really did love this book as a kid. I think the twists and surprises in the story are a lot more surprising as a child than they would be for an adult. An adult would probably predict the plot twists before they happen. I still enjoyed rereading though. A great statement though, about how it is love that makes a family, regardless of background.
So Dixie lives with her mum and three older sisters, and her mum is having another baby. The plot revolves round the family moving house, the arrival of the new baby, and a new friend Dixie makes in the story.
Honestly I feel bad for poor Uncle Bruce, roped into being more helpful to the family than initially intended.
Wish there was more effort put into the ending. JW books usually end anticlimactically and making you want more.
Rereading Jacqueline Wilson books as an adult is like catching up with an old friend. I advise any adult who religiously read her books as a kid to do so!
