A great story
A fascinating look at a very different set of lives. The book is not particularly well crafted but every word comes from the heart.
The characters are highly endearing and story very engaging.
It is difficult not to like the two main characters, Lips and Robbo, as their lives twist and turn through a roller coaster of setbacks, opportunities and failures. The book is written from two perspectives which often disagree about the events that unfolded. At times you want to bang their heads together and sort their lives out for them.
The book is solidly based in the heavy metal community but you don't need to be a fan of the genre to enjoy the book. It is a story that couldn't be made up and one that entertains,thrills, disgusts and inspires at many junctures.
I particularly enjoyed the self evaluation of each album - they couldn't understand why they didn't sell and often blamed it on the cover pictures. Personally I find the music awful, the most likely reason for low sales, but their belief in their own abilities and the eventual success is heart warming.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a glimpse into a world that I otherwise have little comprehension of.
