Publisher Description
'I write this sitting in the kitchen sink' is the first line of this timeless, witty and enchanting novel about growing up. Cassandra Mortmain lives with her bohemian and impoverished family in a crumbling castle in the middle of nowhere. Her journal records her life with her beautiful, bored sister, Rose, her fadingly glamorous stepmother, Topaz, her little brother Thomas and her eccentric novelist father who suffers from a financially crippling writer's block. However, all their lives are turned upside down when the American heirs to the castle arrive and Cassandra finds herself falling in love for the first time.
Customer Reviews
Simply put, lovely story
Great opening lines, lovely story and would definitely recommend to friends if they want an easy read. Low key want to live in a castle now
Beautiful book
Fabulous descriptions, glorious characterisation. I feel a loss that the book is now finished. I just wish the editing would check more thoroughly as some sentences are chopped off or mixed up. Is that just the digital copy?
An all time classic
This is a book that will be read by future generations quite simply because it is so well written. The characters are interesting & funny & The storyline is brilliant. I have read it so many times & still really enjoy it. Written through the eyes of a young girl, Cassandra, we can see the world through her innocent eyes & feel her emotions as she experiences love for the first time with all the complications that brings. A truly wonderful book!
