Publisher Description

'There are 3,000 drugged-up psychopaths, armed to the teeth with blades, shooters and bombs. That's the only way I can describe Yare. It's a murderous viper's nest of assassins, cut throats and killers.'

When James Miles and his best friend Paul Loseby were caught smuggling ten kilos of cocaine out of Caracas, Venezuela, they couldn't deny their guilt. Young and naive, the lads had thought the one-off drug mule job would be a passport to a better life. But in reality it was a ticket to hell ...

They were sentenced to thirty years and flung into the world's deadliest prison system, ending up in the notorious Yare. A place where drugs and weaponry are currency and the rules are: there are no rules.

This is the gripping true-life story of how two men endured untold savagery in the most appalling conditions. It's about what it's like to witness murder and rape every day, fearing you'll be next. How it feels to join a dangerous Latino gang and eat dead rats in order to survive. And, what you do when you're at the centre of a riot between thousands of men with machine guns.

As seen on Channel 5's Banged Up Abroad, this is the most shocking prison story ever told and an inspiring account of human endurance.

Astonishing

Fear, greed, hate and compassion.. All human nature and needs these young men had to endure at a very young age. Excellent read

Incredible lives, incredible story.

I'll never understand why people read fiction when there's books like this one. And I never read to entertain myself, but to learn something. I read philosophy treatises, my fav books are books like Schopenhauer's "Counsels And Maxims", the Hagakure and the Dokkodo. But this books is the real thing, because it's real, it's the story of two kids falling tragically in a trap of extravagant illusions, the very thing philosophers like Schopenhauer wrote about. And here's the thing: I would have fallen for it too, for when I was young, I too believe in what Schopenhauer called "Fata Morgana". I like the authors. They are no criminals, just two travellers on the highway of life, getting entangled in the many, many traps this world has in store for anybody. I like their honesty. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn something. I sure did. I wish all the best to the authors. May they live in peace. PS. Yes, I saw the Banged Up Abroad" episode, along with the whole series. But I knew I had to read this book. You should, too.

Very detailed and a great read.

An eye watering account and a great read. Very detailed description and very blood curdling gory in parts. How 2 Brits could be so naive and then describe the deep corruption of the jails. Definitely worth reading.
