Different - in a good way.

NORMALLY, I groan when I see a book is written from numerous viewpoints and a backstory is interspersed with the main narrative. NORMALLY, I find this annoying as it can be confusing or because it breaks up the flow and adds nothing positive to the storyline.
This book is an example of how this technique can be so effective.

We meet the main characters who work together and we learn a bit about them as individuals- their lives, relationships and insecurities. That’s important.

The backstory is drip fed to us. At first it seemed unconnected to the story of the office life but gradually I began to think I could see where it was going and how it was going to come together. The author managed to keep me intrigued and wanting to know if my guesses were correct pretty much up to the end of the book.

The mainly short chapters made it easy to read ‘just a little bit more’ so I read the book within two days.

I never felt I was reading a rehashed plot which happens from time to time with books I read. The story felt fresh to me. I could nitpick and say a couple of things were very slightly implausible but that wasn’t important and I think it’s well worth the 5* I gave it.

When she was bad

An enthralling story, well-researched and keeping you in suspense all the way along.
